MOTN Festival to Present ‘To Zayed Salam’ Cine-concert as a Tribute to the UAE’s Founding Father

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 20 March 2019: The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) will conclude the final day of the Mother of the Nation Festival with a presentation of the spectacular cine-concert, ‘To Zayed Salam’.

The highlight of Festival’s closing day on 23 March, the cine-concert was originally created in line with the 2018 Year of Zayed celebrations. As part of the Emirati Voices project, ‘To Zayed Salam’, which has previously been presented at Manarat Al Saadiyat, returns at the Mother of the Nation Festival to once again present a powerful tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan through music and film.

This moving musical and visual experience, which will take place at 8:30pm on the Main Stage in the Souq and F&B Zone, presented by ADIB, will highlight both Sheikh Zayed’s enduring legacy and the UAE’s rich musical heritage. The show features traditional songs that cover themes inspired by poems penned by the Father of the Nation. Emirati oud master and singer Faisal Al Saari has teamed up with a group of singers from the UAE and professional musicians to bring Sheikh Zayed’s poems to life, which illuminate a diverse array of topics relevant to the nation’s society. These are set to music written and arranged by a talented group of composers including Khaled Nasser, Moussa Mohamed, and Ali Kano.

“We are delighted to present ‘To Zayed Salam’ as part of this year’s Mother of the Nation Festival,” said Ameera Al Mazrouei, Festivals Development Unit Head at DCT Abu Dhabi. “This moving tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed embodies the much-loved leader’s values and offers a unique experience for residents and visitors to Abu Dhabi, while showcasing the UAE’s rich cultural heritage. The concert represents an exceptional addition to the Festival and will celebrate the Founding Father’s timeless vision, which is especially relevant during the national Year of Tolerance.”

The concert will be enriched by the screening of an exclusive compilation of footage and memories from throughout Sheikh Zayed’s life. The film element of the show highlights Sheikh Zayed’s character, kindness, and love for his people, creating an immersive and inspiring visual and sensory experience for visitors that reflects the late leader’s symbolic presence in the culture and values of the UAE today.

“The ‘To Zayed Salam’ cine-concert holds great cultural and historical value, as it invites the audience on a journey with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and highlights his noble values and achievements, which continue to guide the nation today,” said Alia Khalid Al Qassimi, Head of Manarat Al Saadiyat. “In line with the spirit of the Mother of the Nation Festival, this vibrant show is filled with positive messages of peace and unity, and reflects our gratitude to the Founding Father by presenting his poems, which capture the essence of his beliefs in a profound and inspiring way.”

The ‘To Zayed, Salam’ concert will be held at 8:30pm on Saturday 23 March on the Festival’s Main Stage. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of musical performances during the remaining days of the Festival, including the Abu Dhabi debut of International DJ Nicky Romero on 22 March.
