The Trendsetters Series is our dedicated platform for the visionaries redefining the global hospitality landscape. We move beyond the surface to uncover the strategies of leaders who are driving digital transformation, sustainable luxury, and a new era of leadership. In this edition, we sit down with a true innovator at the intersection of scale and technology.

Shannon McCallum is a powerhouse in the world of high-volume, luxury hospitality. With a career spanning over 30 years, from the legendary service standards of Fairmont to the massive operational complexity of Las Vegas icons like ARIA and Resorts World Las Vegas, Shannon understands the delicate balance of "High-Touch" and "High-Tech." Recognized as a Global Top 100 Influencer and a board advisor for the 2025 HITEC Advisory Council, she is currently leading the charge into the future of Agentic AI.

Redefining Luxury at Scale

At Resorts World Las Vegas, Shannon oversees three distinct hotel brands: Hilton, Conrad, and Crockfords, which together allow the property to offer everything from approachable luxury to ultra-premium hospitality. Managing more than 3,500 guest rooms and suites, her focus remains on delivering service that is both efficient and deeply personalized.

Shannon believes that luxury isn’t a single formula. While some guests prefer the convenience of digital tools to manage their stay autonomously, others appreciate the warmth of face-to-face interactions. Her goal has been to provide a flexible framework where guests choose the level of tech or personal touch that feels right for them. By blending thoughtful automation with genuine human connection, she ensures each guest’s experience feels intentional and uniquely tailored.

The Rise of Agentic AI

As the industry looks toward 2026, Shannon identifies Agentic AI as the most transformative technology reshaping hotel operations. Unlike traditional AI designed to perform single tasks, Agentic AI can autonomously manage and coordinate complex, multi-step workflows across various systems.

At Resorts World, Shannon has not only integrated AI agents to automate basic manual tasks but is also actively working toward implementing Agentic AI. This technology aims to reduce request volumes, enabling the property to deliver a more seamless service experience. For Shannon, the power of data is in its ability to empower staff; by automating routine back-office tasks, team members are freed to concentrate on high-value guest interactions, transforming their roles from service providers to experience curators.

A Foundation of Innovation

Shannon’s 15-year tenure with Fairmont, particularly opening the Fairmont Vancouver Airport in 1999, was foundational to her career. The property was pioneering, soundproof, sustainably designed, and built with technology that pushed the boundaries of airport lodging. That early exposure to innovation, combined with Fairmont’s commitment to service excellence, shaped the way she approaches technology today. It taught her that technology should elevate hospitality, not overshadow it.

During her time as VP of Operations at a major Las Vegas resort, Shannon partnered with IT teams to implement nine new systems in a single year. For traditional hoteliers, she suggests that the key is reframing technology as an opportunity rather than a replacement. She recommends collaborating closely with IT leaders and benchmarking against comparable properties to spark ideas that strengthen daily operations.

Leadership, Community, and the New Las Vegas

Since moving to Las Vegas in 2010, Shannon has witnessed the city evolve from a gaming-defined destination into a premier hub for meetings, events, and sports. With the arrival of the Vegas Golden Knights, the Raiders, and global events like the Super Bowl, she notes that the guests she welcomes today are more global and experience-driven than ever before.

To lead in this environment, Shannon emphasizes that community engagement is essential. For women aiming for C-suite roles, she advises that building a network of mentors and peers opens doors that technical expertise alone cannot. She believes it is vital to demonstrate leadership that extends beyond personal ambition; by lifting others as they advance, leaders establish the credibility and trust necessary for the C-suite.

The Power of the Digital Presence

Shannon maintains that a strong digital presence is no longer optional for modern executives. With younger audiences shifting away from traditional media, she views social platforms as the most effective way to showcase a property's culture. Beyond driving guest interest, she utilizes her digital presence for talent recruitment, noting that people want to work where they feel inspired and connected. By sharing authentic insights and highlighting positive team moments, Shannon signals a healthy culture that is crucial in today's competitive labor market.
