We have all read and heard much about RM, and it is a critical component of the hospitality Industry. The problem is that in the next few years there will be major changes in this field. Some of the flag properties are requiring that managers get their CHA'S in the respective field. EI gives the test, as well as most major hotel universities. That means CHRM will need to be certified. It also means that some will not make it and others may opt to go for a position that doe not require certification.
When you look at the membership of some of these hospitality web sites it is interesting how few experienced managers have no certification at all. Why? I don't expect everyone to be certified, but getting CHA certification denotes leadership, commitment and desire to be the best. It also gives back to the industry in form of mentoring others. The next wave in this industry will be the new leaders of where this industry will go. There are new concepts emerging every day, and different forms of how thing need to be done. Take a look at the new images of franchise properties. Aloft, Element, Nylo, Cambria and such. These innovative designs would have been turned down a few years ago as to radical.
Interior designs are reving up as well different room concepts that are completely opposite of the norm. All of these components will affect the way that managers run their hotels. It has come to the time to think outside of the square not just the box. The industry is slowly recovering, but there is still many properties that will not. I say to all of you coming up in this industry if you want to survive get your certification or you will passed over by someone that does. Be alert be wise seize the opportunity while you can........................
